Our July-August 2026 theme is Time Travel.
A Time Travel story explores the past, present, and future. It is about the movement of people, information, or objects across the epochs of existence. There are often limitless possibility and consequences that follow each. Whether your story is based on scientific theory, speculative technology, mysterious phenomena, or unexplained forces, time travel should remain central to the plot. A well-crafted story considers how changing events, preserving history, or witnessing another era affects both the traveler and the world around them.
This prompt can explore anything: preventing a catastrophe, witnessing lost civilizations, unraveling historical mysteries, surviving in a distant future, encountering alternate timelines, or confronting paradoxes created by one's own actions. Perhaps time itself is breaking apart, or history is being rewritten. Whether your story is adventurous, suspenseful, emotional, or philosophical, let time itself shape the narrative.
Time travel has inspired some of science fiction's most enduring stories. Some influential works include The Time Machine by H. G. Wells, 11/22/63 by Stephen King, Doomsday Book by Connie Willis, The End of Eternity by Isaac Asimov, and Kindred by Octavia E. Butler. Read them and be inspired.
